The Benefits of Eating Fresh Ginger

Ginger root has a rough and hard beige skin , juicy and has a pale yellow flesh. It can be used as a spice, fresh or dried and ground to a powder. The fresh, juicy root has a pungent taste and a nice scent that makes it suitable for sweet or savoury dishes, whereas the dried ground root is much more fiery. Young ginger can also be preserved in sugar. It is a popular in cuisines throughout Asia and Europe.

Ginger is most commonly known for its effectiveness as a digestive aid. By increasing the production of digestive fluids and saliva, it helps to relieve indigestion, gas pains, diarrhea and stomach cramping. Its root is also used to treat nausea related to both motion sickness and morning sickness.Ginger's anti-inflammatory properties help to relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with arthritis, rheumatism and muscle spasms. It helps to stimulate circulation of the blood, removing toxins from the body, cleansing the bowels and kidneys, and nourishing the skin. Other uses for this herb include the treatment of asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems by loosening and expelling phlegm from the lungs. It can also be used to help break fevers by warming the body and increasing perspiration.

Other healthy benefits include:

•It gives relief to the stomach and acts directly to it on reducing nausea and vomiting

•Good and effective on treating morning and motion sickness

•It helps in keeping out gas from the body, which can cause cramps and pains. That is why it works well against menstrual cramps too

To relief one from vomiting, taking 1/4 teaspoon of ginger juice or powder,  20 minutes before a car or boat trip should give you about 4 hours of relief. Another popular remedy is 3 or 4 slices of sliced ginger in a cup of boiling water to make ginger tea. Sip as needed to relieve nausea caused by motion sickness.

To relief one from migraine, take 1/3 teaspoon of fresh of powdered ginger taken with a cup of water to stop pain from migraine before it starts. Though the results are still experimental,  using the same theory, ginger has been found to produce "marked" relief in arthritis pain. The ginger tea described above or 1/2 teaspoon of ginger is recommended for arthritis relief.
